A Very Special Event

Our dear friend Sonia Pressman Fuentes has sent me the following information regarding a very special event taking place in Washington, DC, this Month.

Suffragists and Survivors: Jewish Women of Courage. It'll be from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is put on by the National Woman's Party at its historic headquarters, the Sewall-Belmont House, one of the oldest houses on Capitol Hill. This is the first time the National Woman's Party, founded by Alice Paul, whom I knew, in 1916 has planned a program for and about Jewish women. I will introduce the first speaker, Dr. Linda Gordon Kuzmack, a historian, psychotherapist, professor, author and lecturer, who has been involved in women's issues, especially Jewish women's issues, since the early 1970s. Linda will talk in the morning session about Jewish suffragists.

After lunch, Dr. Sara Horowitz, a professor at York College in Toronto, Canada, and Lucienne Beard, program coordinator of the Alice Paul Centennial Foundation, will speak about Alice Paul and her granting asylum to Jewish families during the Holocaust at the headquarters of the World Woman's Party in Geneva, Switzerland.

For further information, feel free to contact Lori Geiger at lori.geiger@sewallbelmont.org (who is Jewish).
