Re: Your Monthly Megillah for July, 2003
We (the wife and I) enjoy reading your weekly newsletter. Amazing what can be learned and you seem well able to supply the road map. Thanks and keep up the good work. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Last year, we vacationed for ten days basically in the Montreal area and noticed the tremendous flow of Jews to Toronto (a city we would not re-visit). And now we have just returned from ten days exploring The Atlantic Provinces. Mainly Nova Scotia but also some time in St. John. Timing allowed us to experience an "ethnic festival" in Dartmouth and my Filipino wife enjoyed the three booths reference the Philippines. I'm still looking for anything Jewish! And backtracking to New Brunswick, we toured the only Synagogue in St. John; made a contribution; signed up for their semiannual newsletter - and wondered why the lack of membership. Maybe 30 familles. We saw more in Hong Kong a few years ago! Bottom line to this e-mail: seems the Jews are slowly disappearing from Canada. And those that remain seem to be spreading themselves very thin. And if you get to thin, you become invisible. That's my American (actually: Phildelphian) view. Am I correct? Or need to spend more time in your most enjoyable country? Have a great day and we do enjoy your communications. Many of your imputs are passed along for others to also enjoy.
Editor-> There remains a thriving Jewish community in Montreal. Granted it used to be much larger. Up until several years ago, we had the second largest Jewish population in North America. During what is known as the Quiet Revolution in Quebec, many of the Jewish families in Montreal, moved to Toronto. Come back and see us again soon.
