I greatly enjoyed your article about the Red Apple Rest and the schlep to the Catskills using the old route 17. Isn't it funny how we all seem to have the same memories? My folks always called it "the old route 17" also! Was the old route 17 officially called "the old route 17" at any time? If so, why wasn't the Quickway called "the new route 17"? The Red Apple had the best grilled cheese sandwiches and French fries in the world. I can remember anticipating stopping there for this sandwich and to use the bathroom. (The ladies' room always had a line....back then we had to wait for this restaurant, since we didn't have the fast food joints like McDonald's or Burger King to have a pit stop.) Thanks once again for the great memories!
