I just read your editorial. I have "suffered" the same way and cannot understand a religion that continually complains of losing its people and then rejects one who wishes to join. I am married to a non Jew, but my daughter, who is nine, wants to join the local Cheder. The town in England where I live doesn't have a Synagogue yet, but the congregation meet in a local Community Hall. I chatted to the teacher of the Cheder who said that unless I was prepared to join, pay fees and participate in teaching at Cheder my daughter would not be able to attend. She is very upset and cannot understand why she cannot go and learn all about her mother's religion. What a short- sighted attitude is this? I also have a friend who converted to Judaism and married a Jew. The problems and obstacles thrown up by the Beth Din to put her off were amazing and I am surprised she stuck it out. Why do those "holier than thou" Jews give the rest of us such a hard time and such a bad name?
