I think the US and Israeli governments should definitely have contacts with Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Authority. Dialogue is the basis of democracy. People do not have to like each other, or agree with each other, in order to maintain conversations, dialogues, debates, and negotiations. Every disagreement, disruption, shooting, and bombing should be an excuse for more dialogue and negotiation, not less. There is nothing to lose in talking, yet there is understanding and peace to win. How can we do otherwise?
