Catskill Documentary
I anxiously await to hear more information about the documentary the BBC is doing about the Catskills! From around 1956 through the early 1970's, the Catskills were my "home away from home", having spent each summer staying in either hotels or bungalow colonies everywhere from Sackett Lake (the Sackett Lake Lodge) to Loch Sheldrake (Waxman's Overlook, Finkelstein's Bungalows, Frieda's Hotel and Bungalows, Ritzer's Bungalows) to Woodbourne (Damesek's Woodland Bungalow Colony, the Aladdin Hotel and apartments owned by Mrs. Komito, the owner) to Kiamesha Lake (Gibber's Hotel) to Fallsburg (the wonderful Heiden Hotel and their motel rooms). I can't wait to hear more about the project. Congratulations on being selected to participate!
Editor-> I am familiar with every place you mentioned in the Catskills. When one is a performer playing the circuit up there, you wind up working the smallest schlock houses right up to the biggest luxury resorts such as Grossinger’s etc. Sadly, with very few exceptions all of those places are gone. Although, word is, that a lot of them are being rebuilt and prepared to reopen because of the Indian gambling casinos that will be opening there in the not too distant future. It won’t be the same though, will it? I will of course keep you informed of any further information regarding the BBC project. At this juncture, my involvement is strictly in the discussion stages. As soon as something is firmed up, I will let you know. Take good care and please keep in touch when you have the chance.
